24 May 2010-Music Reflection

Today we checked our resources, uniform and attendance. Then the teacher asked each group and members whether they practice or not. When he was checking the third group, come along Mr. John. he told the group leader of each group to write down their group members one by one. and ask them about their group member's behavior while practicing. I think that this is a waste of time; starting back from group 1. I have to memorize the song for next session.

20 May 2010-Music Reflection

Today, as usual, we check the attendance first. Then we discussed about the criteria that will be assessed, which are; knowledge and understanding, personal engagement, reflection and evaluation, and applications. And also the things which are assessed for each criteria. Then we practice our group presentation again in front of the whole class.

17 May 2010-Music Reflection

Today after checking the attendance, we practice for our group presentation in front of the class for the whole 2 sessions. I think that my group is good enough, mr.harry said that if that was the performance, we would get 7/8. But i still want to improve my score into an 8/8.

10 may 2010-music reflection

today we were given another worksheet for the follow-up test. we review about the things we learnt last session and took the test. i think the only thing that was hard about the test was that, we were not given enough time, and that they expect us to finish the test on time. because we were not given enough time (like usual) i did NOT finish the test, and i think i made the wrong transposition.

6 May 2010-Music Reflection

Today we discussed about the blog and the attendance, then we were given time to read the worksheet about Asian music. After reading the worksheet, Mr. Harry asked us some questions about the information in the worksheet. And then we learned how to count intervals and were given a quiz. The quiz was easy, there were 10 question, and I supposed I should get a 10, instead of an 8. But because I didn't hear one question correctly and didn't get enough time, I ended up with the score I got (what a disgrace).

3 May 2010-Music Reflection

today we review the triad, and we made triad, first and second inversion for b flat major scale and e flat major scale. And starting today, we have instrument class again(YIPPEE!. In the instrument class i played the a major scale.

29 April 2010-Music Reflection

Today after checking the attendance, we review for the test today, g, c, f and d major, triad, the first and second inversion. The test was easy because we reviewed about it. I think I aced it. We practice the group presentation-16 bars.

26 April 2010-Music Reflection

Today, after checking the attendance, we continued with our discussion last week; TRIADS! So, without hesitation, we spent the whole TWO session reviewing about TRIADS. We even finish class at like about 2.15. I think that bringing our instrument to school (class) is useless. Because we're not even going to play it. If the teachers decided to spend the whole session for theory class, they could've at least tell us, so that we won't bring our instruments to class, and got a breach if we don't bring our instrument to class, which we are, by the way, NOT going to use anyways. It is written clearly in our schedule that we got 4o minutes for theory class and the rest 40 minutes for instrument class. I know that theory is important, but what is the point of buying new instruments if we're not gonna learn how to play it. Even though the teachers said that they extended the theory class because we were noisy, or because we haven't understand, I think that they still need to keep a track of time and divide the class EVENLY. I think it's not fair that we spent the whole 85 minutes for theory class. I will not do anything at home, because I've understood the triads, nor practice, since we didn't even got the time for instrument class. At least, we learnt something new today(YIPPEE), we(norman) counted the intervals of the triads.

22 April 2010-Music Reflection

Today, as usual, we were reviewing about the triads, again(!!!). We spent most of the time to review (I think). Fortunately, we practice our group presentation in front of the class, but we didn't even practice before that. I completely have no clue what we should do when the practical exam come up. We barely practice, like only about 3 times.

19 April 2010-Music Reflection

So firstly, we checked the attendance, and as I've predicted, we continued reviewing about the triad. And as the story goes on, we spend the whole music class discussing about the triad, and didn't have time for instrument class.

15 April 2010-Music Reflection

Firstly we check the attendance, then we were supposed to go practice for our group presentation, but when we were about to start, we were called back and told that we have to learn about something. After everyone got back, we learned about the TRIAD. A triad is when 3 notes are played together. We didn't go to instrument class, and probably won't next week.

12 April 2010-Music Reflection

Firstly, we check the attendance. Then our MDW, and then our blog. After that we transpose, again, an eight bar melody made by Mr. Harry Wisnu from C major to A major. At 13.50 we went to our group practice.

8 April 2010-Music Reflection

Firstly, today we check our MDW homework. Then he reminded us that our last due date is 12 April 2010. Then we went to practice our group pentatonic melody. I think this is finally the first time we went to practice our instrument more than 25 minutes. I practiced with my group and got a vision of how it's going to be. I will practice again at home, and practice my breath because they play it really slow(no offence).

5 April 2009-Music Reflection

Today we learnt about transpose. Transpose is changing chord to chord. We discussed about it for a while and then did the exercise. We have to transpose this melody, for C chord to D chord then to A chord. After we're done, we discussed about our group. Even though we didn't practice. And then we went home without going to instrument class. T_T

15 March 2010-Music Reflection

Today, we continued with the assessment we didn't manage to finish due to the shortness of the time. The woodwind instrument along with Hee Jae performed our 32 bar pentatonic melody. Then Mr. John explained to us about this event on Friday. After that, we were grouped. The 5 leaders are the students who the teachers apparently think made the best 32 bar pentatonic melody. My group leader is Natasha, and my group consist of Natasha, me, Steven, Stevi, and Malvin. I will start practicing, at home, Natasha's composition. And on Thursday, we will probably continue practicing Natasha's composition.

11 March 2010-Music Reflection

Today, we did our assessment. We played our 32 pentatonic melody in our own instrument, except the woodwind because we didn't have enough time. So, the woodwind will perform next session.

Monday, March 8, 2010

8 March 2010-Music Reflection

Today we didn't go to instrument class. Instead we practice our 32 bar pentatonic composition in front of the whole class. But because we didn't have enough time, the woodwind and guitar club didn't have the chance perform. Next week all of us have to perform our 32 bar pentatonic composition, and a short classical song. For woodwind, we will play Amazing Grace.

4 March 2010-Music Reflection

Today we start the class by checking the blog. He asked everyone who haven't update their blog and why. Then we review the sharps and flats in the scale, again. And then we were asked to make/continue making the 3-7 sharps and flats. After we're done, he asked 2 students from each instrument class to practice their 32 bar composition in front of the whole class. From woodwind he asked me and Nico to practice in front of the class, from guitar he asked Allysea and Farah, from violin he asked Edward and Steven, and from piano he asked Heidy and Norman, but because Norman can't play it fluently, yet, he asked Rafildo to replace him. Then we went to instrument class. I will continue to memorize my 32 bar composition at home, and we will still practice our composition next week.

1 March 2010-Music Reflection

Today, we rewiew making the sharp notes, and the interval. We discussed the major scale, with the sharps, from 1-7. After that, Mr. Harry Wisnu explained to us the flats. From 1-7. And we will probably review the flats next week, again. Then we went to instrument class. Because there is no homework, I will memorize my composition at home.

Friday, February 26, 2010

25 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today we learnt more about the scales. We learnt about the sharps today. I learnt how to make the sharps. And we were asked to make the scales with 3 sharps until 7 sharps. We were also told that the 5th note will be the next scale, and we also learnt that the sharp is the 7th note of the scale. After we made the scales, we went to instrument class. Today we did the same thing in instrument class. We practiced our melody. I try to memorize it at home today.

22 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today after Mr. Harry Wisnu checked our attendance, he sang 3 examples of our 32 bar pentatonic note assessment; Steviani Hidajat's, Ronaldo Yuliawan's and Theodora Emily Wattimena's assessment. Then he gave us a copy of our assessment to practice in our own instrument at home. I got an 8.5, and I'm quite satisfied because he mentioned earlier that the highest score is 8.5 and the lowest is 6. Which proves that I am one of the student that got the highest score in the class. Then we went to instrument class. In the instrument class today, he checked my assessment in my instrument; Flute. I will perfect my assessment, and memorize it by next week.

18 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today, we did the 32 bar pentatonic note assessment. I did my pentatonic note already, but my pattern is A B A C D E F E. While, the school want it to be A A' B A'. But I still do it my way, because I think mine is already good and I'm confident that I will get a good score. After we're all done, we went to the instrument class. Next week we will practice our pentatonic assessment in our own instrument. I will practice again at home, so that I will get a good score.

15 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today, because Mr. Harry was absent, Mr. Herry replaced him. He told us to sit according to our instrument class. Today was supposedly to be the submission date for our 32 bar pentatonic note. But because most of them aren't done, today was used for making it. Later on, he asked us whether we knew about the 'pattern' to make the 32 bar pentatonic note. And, again since most of them aren't aware of it, he explained it to us. Giving us an example of how its like. And he told everyone to write it down, even though we're done making our 32 bar pentatonic note with the 'pattern', as a comparison. After we all wrote it down, he finally allow us to go to the instrument class. Ms. Melvina substituted Mr. Harry for the instrument class. I will practice my 32 bar pentatonic note at home so that I will have a good score for my assessment next session.

Thursday, 11 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today we review the pentatonic. We also review the name of the notes, a value of ones note and rest, and the note positioning(interval). And then we were asked to make a 16 bar pentatonic as a practice for our assessment next week. I chose to do the Chinese pentatonic today because I did the Japanese pentatonic last week, and I think that the Chinese pentatonic is easier than the Javanese pentatonic. I will practice doing the pentatonic at home so that I will get a good score for the assessment next week.

Monday, 8 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today, first of all, Mr. Harry tells us our scores for the booklet we did. I think I did quite rather a satisfying job because I got 8 out of 8. But even if that is, I am not satisfied by the cover. The title is not bold enough, people that are 3 meters far can't even read it clearly. Yet nobody complains, suggest and/or comment. Except for that is STEVEN KURNIAWAN. Well, honestly I don't know, maybe he has a problem with me getting an excellent score yet, he only got 7.5 because of his small pictures. Anyways, after he announced all of our scores, he explained to us more about the pentatonic. All three pentatonic, the Chinese pentatonic, the Javanese pentatonic and the Japanese pentatonic. And then we sing the three pentatonic together. After we sing it correctly, he made us a four bar example of the Chinese pentatonic. And after we understand it, we were asked to make a 12 bar pentatonic of one of the 3 pentatonic of our choice. We were only allowed to go to the instrument class after we finished making the 12 bar pentatonic.

Thursday, 4 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today, we submitted our booklet one by one. Then, we learned about the notes. Whole note, half note and quarter note. We also learned about the rests, semi-breve rest, minim rest, crotchet rest and quaver rest. Later on, Mr. Harry teaches us about the major notes and the minor notes. There are three minor notes; the natural, the harmony and the melody. And lastly, he explained to us about the pentatonic notes. There are the Chinese pentatonic, Javanese pentatonic, and the Japanese pentatonic. And finally, we went to the instrument class.

Monday, 1 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today we did the singing assignment reflection that was held on the 25th January 2010. After we're all done, Mr. John Legoh explained to all of us about the content and criteria of the individual booklet. Then Mr. Harry Wisnu told us to make a blog. He showed us step by step on how to make a blog in blogger.com for our music reflection. And we also have to write the reflection in the Learning Journal then sent him the email, agian. And then Mr. Herry R. showed up and explain to us, again, what has been explained clearly. And also about our body language in Music Class, subtracting a point if we look lazy or unexcited in class. Our homework for next session is we have to submit our booklet. It must be done nicely, at least 15 pages, with pictures and binded. And that is how I will make my booklet.

Thursday, 28 January 2010-Music Reflection

We did the music presentation today. Our group presentation is the last. Even though I don't really concentrate because I laugh too much and I don't speak clearly, I think our group did fine. Our presentation is very nice, but the composers aren't clear. And we don't have the sample audio of a Japanese Song. I will research more on the composers for the booklet. I will also probably start on making the booklet, since the teachers said it have to be good. But I have to wait for next week because the teachers said they will explain the criteria and contents of the booklet next session. So, next week we will discussed about the criteria and contents of the individual booklet based on our Asian country.

Monday, 25 January 2010-Music Reflection

Today we did the singing assessment. I sang Bahay Kubo along with Shavira Putri Hidayanti and Theodora Emily Wattimena. I think I did great because I got 75. And for next week, we will have the real music presentation. I will make the cue card for my slide presentation.

Thursday, 21 January 2010-Music Reflection

Well, today we get to learn another song. This one is Philippines, called Bahay Kubo, by Murizio Ferrandini. Bahay Kubo is basically about farm life. Bahay Kubo in english is Nipa Hut. And again we listen to Mr. Harry Wisnu sing the song solo, but this time it's not only him. Since Mr. Al is a Philippines, he had the song sang solo too. Then he had it translate to english, even though they had it translated to us in english at the bottom of the paper. Then we sing it together. Before learning the song, we practiced our presentation with our group, again. Next week, we will have the singing assignment. I'll probably sing Bahay Kubo instead of Sakura Sakura, because Bahay Kubo is an easier song to sing. So, when I reach home, I will practice the song and perfect it by Monday.

Monday, 18 January 2010-Music Reflection

Today we learnt a Japanese song called Sakura Sakura. This song is a traditional folk song, composed by Keiko Abe depicting spring, the Cherry Blossom. This song has been popular since the Meiji period. First we listened to Mr. Harry Wisnu sing the song solo, then we sing it together as a class. We also got our group. My group consist of Farah L. as the leader, Shavira P., Norman S., Sheryl S. and me. And we are from the Japanese group. As for next week, we are practicing our presentation. I will practice the song Sakura Sakura again at home.
