1 March 2010-Music Reflection

Today, we rewiew making the sharp notes, and the interval. We discussed the major scale, with the sharps, from 1-7. After that, Mr. Harry Wisnu explained to us the flats. From 1-7. And we will probably review the flats next week, again. Then we went to instrument class. Because there is no homework, I will memorize my composition at home.

25 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today we learnt more about the scales. We learnt about the sharps today. I learnt how to make the sharps. And we were asked to make the scales with 3 sharps until 7 sharps. We were also told that the 5th note will be the next scale, and we also learnt that the sharp is the 7th note of the scale. After we made the scales, we went to instrument class. Today we did the same thing in instrument class. We practiced our melody. I try to memorize it at home today.

22 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today after Mr. Harry Wisnu checked our attendance, he sang 3 examples of our 32 bar pentatonic note assessment; Steviani Hidajat's, Ronaldo Yuliawan's and Theodora Emily Wattimena's assessment. Then he gave us a copy of our assessment to practice in our own instrument at home. I got an 8.5, and I'm quite satisfied because he mentioned earlier that the highest score is 8.5 and the lowest is 6. Which proves that I am one of the student that got the highest score in the class. Then we went to instrument class. In the instrument class today, he checked my assessment in my instrument; Flute. I will perfect my assessment, and memorize it by next week.

18 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today, we did the 32 bar pentatonic note assessment. I did my pentatonic note already, but my pattern is A B A C D E F E. While, the school want it to be A A' B A'. But I still do it my way, because I think mine is already good and I'm confident that I will get a good score. After we're all done, we went to the instrument class. Next week we will practice our pentatonic assessment in our own instrument. I will practice again at home, so that I will get a good score.

15 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today, because Mr. Harry was absent, Mr. Herry replaced him. He told us to sit according to our instrument class. Today was supposedly to be the submission date for our 32 bar pentatonic note. But because most of them aren't done, today was used for making it. Later on, he asked us whether we knew about the 'pattern' to make the 32 bar pentatonic note. And, again since most of them aren't aware of it, he explained it to us. Giving us an example of how its like. And he told everyone to write it down, even though we're done making our 32 bar pentatonic note with the 'pattern', as a comparison. After we all wrote it down, he finally allow us to go to the instrument class. Ms. Melvina substituted Mr. Harry for the instrument class. I will practice my 32 bar pentatonic note at home so that I will have a good score for my assessment next session.

Thursday, 11 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today we review the pentatonic. We also review the name of the notes, a value of ones note and rest, and the note positioning(interval). And then we were asked to make a 16 bar pentatonic as a practice for our assessment next week. I chose to do the Chinese pentatonic today because I did the Japanese pentatonic last week, and I think that the Chinese pentatonic is easier than the Javanese pentatonic. I will practice doing the pentatonic at home so that I will get a good score for the assessment next week.

Monday, 8 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today, first of all, Mr. Harry tells us our scores for the booklet we did. I think I did quite rather a satisfying job because I got 8 out of 8. But even if that is, I am not satisfied by the cover. The title is not bold enough, people that are 3 meters far can't even read it clearly. Yet nobody complains, suggest and/or comment. Except for that is STEVEN KURNIAWAN. Well, honestly I don't know, maybe he has a problem with me getting an excellent score yet, he only got 7.5 because of his small pictures. Anyways, after he announced all of our scores, he explained to us more about the pentatonic. All three pentatonic, the Chinese pentatonic, the Javanese pentatonic and the Japanese pentatonic. And then we sing the three pentatonic together. After we sing it correctly, he made us a four bar example of the Chinese pentatonic. And after we understand it, we were asked to make a 12 bar pentatonic of one of the 3 pentatonic of our choice. We were only allowed to go to the instrument class after we finished making the 12 bar pentatonic.

Thursday, 4 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today, we submitted our booklet one by one. Then, we learned about the notes. Whole note, half note and quarter note. We also learned about the rests, semi-breve rest, minim rest, crotchet rest and quaver rest. Later on, Mr. Harry teaches us about the major notes and the minor notes. There are three minor notes; the natural, the harmony and the melody. And lastly, he explained to us about the pentatonic notes. There are the Chinese pentatonic, Javanese pentatonic, and the Japanese pentatonic. And finally, we went to the instrument class.

Monday, 1 February 2010-Music Reflection

Today we did the singing assignment reflection that was held on the 25th January 2010. After we're all done, Mr. John Legoh explained to all of us about the content and criteria of the individual booklet. Then Mr. Harry Wisnu told us to make a blog. He showed us step by step on how to make a blog in blogger.com for our music reflection. And we also have to write the reflection in the Learning Journal then sent him the email, agian. And then Mr. Herry R. showed up and explain to us, again, what has been explained clearly. And also about our body language in Music Class, subtracting a point if we look lazy or unexcited in class. Our homework for next session is we have to submit our booklet. It must be done nicely, at least 15 pages, with pictures and binded. And that is how I will make my booklet.

Thursday, 28 January 2010-Music Reflection

We did the music presentation today. Our group presentation is the last. Even though I don't really concentrate because I laugh too much and I don't speak clearly, I think our group did fine. Our presentation is very nice, but the composers aren't clear. And we don't have the sample audio of a Japanese Song. I will research more on the composers for the booklet. I will also probably start on making the booklet, since the teachers said it have to be good. But I have to wait for next week because the teachers said they will explain the criteria and contents of the booklet next session. So, next week we will discussed about the criteria and contents of the individual booklet based on our Asian country.

Monday, 25 January 2010-Music Reflection

Today we did the singing assessment. I sang Bahay Kubo along with Shavira Putri Hidayanti and Theodora Emily Wattimena. I think I did great because I got 75. And for next week, we will have the real music presentation. I will make the cue card for my slide presentation.

Thursday, 21 January 2010-Music Reflection

Well, today we get to learn another song. This one is Philippines, called Bahay Kubo, by Murizio Ferrandini. Bahay Kubo is basically about farm life. Bahay Kubo in english is Nipa Hut. And again we listen to Mr. Harry Wisnu sing the song solo, but this time it's not only him. Since Mr. Al is a Philippines, he had the song sang solo too. Then he had it translate to english, even though they had it translated to us in english at the bottom of the paper. Then we sing it together. Before learning the song, we practiced our presentation with our group, again. Next week, we will have the singing assignment. I'll probably sing Bahay Kubo instead of Sakura Sakura, because Bahay Kubo is an easier song to sing. So, when I reach home, I will practice the song and perfect it by Monday.

Monday, 18 January 2010-Music Reflection

Today we learnt a Japanese song called Sakura Sakura. This song is a traditional folk song, composed by Keiko Abe depicting spring, the Cherry Blossom. This song has been popular since the Meiji period. First we listened to Mr. Harry Wisnu sing the song solo, then we sing it together as a class. We also got our group. My group consist of Farah L. as the leader, Shavira P., Norman S., Sheryl S. and me. And we are from the Japanese group. As for next week, we are practicing our presentation. I will practice the song Sakura Sakura again at home.
